Hmm, it seems one of the pundits on RTE was implying that the Algerian who won the 1500m may have been taken drugs

He pulled out of the 800, claiming he was injured. He was then chucked out of the Olympics for not making an acceptable effort...

Next, he produces a Doctor's note confirming the injury and is reinstated. A couple of days later he leaves the 1500m field in his dust.

Nothing suspicious there then Wink

Sorry, but the reason Stevenson never turned professional was because in those days there were no professional boxers from any of the Warsaw Pact/Communist countries (it was regarded as decadent) and he simply wasn't allowed to. It's only since the fall of the Soviet Union that the likes of the Klitchkos have appeared on he professional circuit. Cuba is still one of the few remaining Communist regimes.

Italy's women defeated by Korea in the volleyball. Probably last Olympics for many of those Italian ladies, sad way to end. Korea play USA and Brazil play Japan in the semi finals on Thursday.

A good point from Chris Boardman there...

Laura Trott is one third of the way to matching Sir Chris Hoy's Olympic Medal total.

Hoy is 36. Laura Trott is only 20!
