RE: UFC - Master Yoda - 18-05-2011 23:23

I really began watching in the summer of 2006. I'd been hearing about it from my mates for a while before that, so i eventually sat down with the boys and watched UFC 61 (i'm almost sure its 61 anyway Rolleyes ). Tito Ortiz stopped Ken Shamrock in the first round and Tim Sylvia was heavyweight champ and beat Andri Arlovski on the night. I got really into UFC for a few years after that and although my interest has waned somewhat in the last year or 2 (shame on me Wink ) i'm still a fan.

I must say i dont have half the knowledge about the sport that you guys have on here so everytime i pop on here and i read yer posts i get more and more interested in the sport again & it makes me not want to miss the fight nights. Fair play to you lads.

Just for the sake of it my Top 5 favourite fighters would be....

Georges St. Pierre
Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson
Tito Ortiz
Anderson Silva
Matt Hughes

RE: UFC - mitchell - 19-05-2011 00:57

Well I say I've been watching it since 1993, thats the first time I saw it on video probably Betamax (Remember them) I was only a youngster at the time so I wasn't a total MMA nut I didn't even know it was MMA, just some dudes having a rumble but it was better than the WWF.

The best I've seen, man thats a tough one but off the top of my head I'd say the early career of Vitor Belfort around the late 90's when he came with that charge & flurry of punches that's won him many a fights, I've seen that many shows that it's impossibly to remember most I've seen every event since it was shown on Bravo or at least when I became aware of it on Bravo maybe late 90's??? to be honest I can't remember whan it started on Bravo.
Others that stand out are the first one I saw as I've said Royce Gracie at UFC 1 & Ken Shamrock & Dan Severn, Shamrock was a beast & his submissions were quality & Dan Severn was one of the first wrestlers to compete in MMA, back then most fighters were just fighters so Gracie, Shamrock & Severn came with a totally new set of skills & it was great to watch unlike now where you get 2 wrestlers that just hold eachother for 15min.

Aswell as these I'd say the fights with the brawlers like Tank Abbott & 'Cabbage', Tank was shocking but he was a former bar room brawler Kimbo style so he just used to stand & bang his record is 10-14, 'Cabbage' was pretty much the same but he could take some serious damage to his head to the point of him coining the catchphrase "My head is full of concrete and stuff". He used to celebrate a win by doing the cabbage dance which used to make me chuckle his record is 19-14, 14 KO wins.
Also the UFC 34 fight where Matt Hughes beat Carlos Newton with a slam. Hughes was caught in a triangle choke by Carlos Newton, but Hughes lifted Newton in the air and slammed him to the mat, causing Newton to hit his head and lose consciousness just as Hughes was on the verge of blacking out himself from the choke After the match Carlos stated that he felt the reason Hughes fell to the mat was because he was rendered unconscious from the triangle choke. This was confirmed by Hughes himself upon reviewing the tape of the match Hughes can be heard telling his corner after the fight "I was out

RE: UFC - TDK2008 - 19-05-2011 05:25

Chael Sonnen is fucked right now.:

Quote:The California State Athletic Commission today voted 4-1 to uphold the indefinite suspension of Chael Sonnen, based on the belief that he was not truthful in his testimony in his Dec. 2 hearing based on a steroid suspension coming off the Anderson Silva fight.

At the hearing, Sonnen was able to get his one year suspension halved to six months. This essentially overturns the ruling. Sonnen would not be able to fight in any commission state and at the hearing said if the ruling went against him, he would be forced to retire from the sport.

Brawlers indeed mate lol I'm surprised that Cabbage guy could even get his knee up to Abbotts head! Cabbage dance is a nice touch though Wink What UFC was that Mitchell?

Belfort was pretty rapid and explosive in his prime mate.He didn't get the chance to show any of it against Anderson Silva.I knew Silva was gonna stop him in that fight. No disgrace though lol He'll probably look great against Akiyama in his next fight and move on.The Middleweight division's not the strongest for me.

Great news on the event at the Echo! Big Grin Hopefully it gets made official soon. The UFC should put on a really top card in the UK.GSP vs Diaz or put Velasquez's return back a month and have the Heavyweight Title fight in Liverpool.Something good like that. That's dreamland im guessing though. Rolleyes Still can't wait for the event no matter who's fighting!

I read that Chael sonnen news earlier TDK and it looks he could be finished in MMA.If they're upholding an indefinite suspension on him then where and when does he get to fight again? It puts The Ultimate Fighter show with Bisping straight out the window.Who knows? Is it the Money Laundering thing that's the problem or the test after the Silva fight? He had the problem with his test after the Silva fight but don't think it's that they're banning him for...Think it's the Money Laundering. An action that discredits the sport. They both are. bladewave

Tank V Cabbage was UFC 45 they fought again in a event in Hawaii & Tank won in 1:23sec cabbage was only a young fighter at the time he's only 33 now, he trains with BJ, if he had the right training back then he could've been like Roy Nelson.

RE: UFC - Ro1982 - 19-05-2011 14:50

Was anyone a bigger pride fan than the ufc? I know it was riddled with drugs and its really been proved that ufc fighters are better but i thought when the ufc and pride were runnin at the same time pride had the more exciting fights. Some amazin knock outs as well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voILtDQjfrc&feature=related

RE: UFC - groundnpound - 19-05-2011 15:02

That's a good right hand in the rematch mate. Some old school power! That's why i like Carwin so much,he goes in and tries to get the job done early throwing rapid powerful strikes up close.

I've not seen much Pride stuff mate.I know Rampage was awesome though. Some good action on those vids.Top KO Smile

Have you seen the Kimbo Slice street fight vids?
