RE: Tennis Discussion Thread - lovebabes56 - 05-07-2017 21:46 what will happen with the tantrum player who did the coins? RE: Tennis Discussion Thread - circles_o_o_o - 05-07-2017 22:32 How much do you think it was, about 27 pence? I wonder if it showed up on the Hawkeye review. Throwing his money about like a cheapskate version of Floyd Mayweather He has now apologised and said it didn't mean anything. RE: Tennis Discussion Thread - Snooks - 06-07-2017 00:49 Murray has played pretty well so far. He has served better particularly against Dustin Brown. I get the feeling though if he reaches the last four he will most likely face Nadal and if he gets past that Federer in the final. Seriously tough. Not impossible but very very difficult given the form of both men. RE: Tennis Discussion Thread - Regenerated - 06-07-2017 01:56 ^ Andy is still good enough to reach at least the semi-final. Even on one leg and blindfolded I'd be tempted to back him through that section of the draw. Frankly, almost every possible opponent prior to the seemingly inevitable last four meeting with Nadal in my opinion is not good enough to win a slam. Not while the "big four" are still around anyway. If he plays Nadal I think Murray will get to the final. He'll find a way. I saw some weaknesses in Nadal's grass game that Young, albeit briefly, was able to exploit. If Young could, Murray definitely could. There's no question that Rafa and Roger are rolling back the years this season with their achievements. On grass I'd give Andy a slight edge over Rafa though, and so far I've not seen enough from Novak to suggest he'd stop Roger in the other semi. Murray v Federer still seems the likely final for me. RE: Tennis Discussion Thread - Snooks - 06-07-2017 15:39 Yeah I don't doubt his quality being superior to that of all potential opponents prior to the semi. The concern I was expressing was the difficulty in getting past Nadal and Federer. Murray's record against both is not good in slams. I am hopeful though. RE: Tennis Discussion Thread - Regenerated - 06-07-2017 16:43 Agreed, his record against both Nadal and Federer is poor in slams. I was trying to point out though that if Murray pulled all the stops to defeat Nadal, which I think he can, it would be a difficult task against a rejuvenated Federer in the final. It's so difficult to win these majors in an era that features these big four dominant players. They're almost always in the semi finals at least, which means someone has to beat at least two of them, sometimes three of them, in one slam to win the title. It kind of makes Wawrinka's, Cilic's and Del Potro's achievements (the only three players to win a slam other than the big four in the last eleven years) even more impressive. For me it seems set up for Federer to get that 19th major, and 8th Wimbledon, which would finally put him clear of Sampras with whom he currently shares the record on these grass courts. In other news - it looked like an horrific knee injury for Bethanie Mattek Sands today. Tennis is a dangerous game sometimes. RE: Tennis Discussion Thread - Charlemagne - 07-07-2017 15:04 Jo Konta's opponent this afternoon is a looker. She's 21 year old Maria Sakkari from Greece. If only they gave out points for looks RE: Tennis Discussion Thread - lovebabes56 - 07-07-2017 15:23 Not bad is she? It's a shame Jo Konta isn't much of a looker, I wish we could transplant Konta's tennis prowess into Laura Robson, then we would have a number one I could really get behind. RE: Tennis Discussion Thread - lovebabes56 - 07-07-2017 15:52 maybe it would be good to see jo helping Laura |
