Your greatest XI football team? - Mister Gummidge - 07-08-2009 01:10 Inspired by Bird Lime's cricket thread here and the fun I had thinking about it, I've decided to start a similar thread for football here. The one proviso is that all the players are ones you've seen in your own time watching football, or else every side is going to look awfully similar. (Also, try and build your side as if they were actually going to play. A midfield of Maradona, Giggs, Zidane and Le Tissier would look pretty, but be awfully easy to play through.) 11 players, 3 subs. GK: Peter Schmeichel LB: Paolo Maldini RB: Lillian Thuram CB: Franco Baresi CB: Laurent Blanc LW: Georghe Hagi RW: Ruud Gullit CM: Frank Rijkaard CM: Glenn Hoddle FC: Marco Van Basten FC: Dennis Bergkamp Subs: Romario, Lothar Matthaus, Dennis Irwin (May seem an odd choice to some, but he was international class and could play on either side of the defence, allowing either of the two full backs to switch to the centre, in the event of an injury or what have you.) What would your side look like? RE: Your greates XI football team? - x Camilla Rocks My Socks x - 07-08-2009 01:17 Taffarell Maldini Bobby Moore Tony Adams Cafu Beckham Vieira Zidane Messi Thierry Henry Dennis Bergkamp subs: Rivaldo. His father was an alcoholic, drinking Cachaça heavily, a problem which Garrincha would inherit. He had several birth defects: his spine was deformed, his right leg bent inwards and his left leg six centimeters shorter and curved outwards, none of which impeded his ability to play football at the top level. His nickname is thought to be a direct reference to his physical handicap, as the word garrincha is also commonly used in Brazil to describe a person with a handicap. Garrincha was known amongst footballing scouts but many simply would not believe that there was an unknown footballer "who lived in the woods had bent legs who was totally unmarkable and who could dribble like the devil". Because of this, Garrincha did not arrive in professional football until his late teens, incredibly he simply had no interest in a professional career despite his immense talent |
