Any tech guys on at the moment 4 advice ? plz - stevesworld - 20-11-2009 05:44 Could someone please give me some disk writing advice ? I'm a quick learner... Thanx in advance, Steve RE: Any tech guys on at the moment 4 advice ? plz - stevesworld - 20-11-2009 06:36 I'll try again later then... RE: Any tech guys on at the moment 4 advice ? plz - Josh - 20-11-2009 10:11 What do you want to know? Cd or DVD writing? What discs to use? What speeds to burn to? What are you writing to disc? is it for a pc or dvd recorder? etc. The more info you give, the increased chance that someone is likely to offer some assistance. I use a Pc, Running Vista home basic. At the moment, all avi files that I download, I convert to mpeg2 so that my DVD writing program (cyberlink dvd suite- came free with the LG external dvd writer) will burn it (any other format and it doesn't recognise it). I notice that nearly all the files I download are tagged CD1 and CD2 etc... in +- 900Mb sized files. I have heard that burning these video files to CD is more common, and would like to know how to go about it... I also have ashampoo for burning, but am not that familiar with it yet... I have gone through sooooo many disks trying to burn so that my home DVD player can read them, but so far to no avail. I have a bunch of Memorex CD-R and Memorex DVD+R 's that I need to fill up to ease the pressure on my External HD. Is that what you need to help...? Thanks for the responses (and the wit - RED) RE: Any tech guys on at the moment 4 advice ? plz - HEX!T - 20-11-2009 18:31 (20-11-2009 15:45 )stevesworld Wrote: I would like to know where I'm going wrong, coz I'm sure I am... for me what works is converting them from avi to mpeg 2 (using total vidio converter) both files come it ant around the 700mb mark. mpeg2 is usualy a little bigger, then i just burn em to disk 6 at a time using neros make data disk option. most of the time the results are fine but occasionaly the audio goes out of sync. the other option is 2 films per disk and there transcoded into lp dvd's takes me about half an hour but not every 1 has my rig, this would take a p4 up to 4 hours. RE: Any tech guys on at the moment 4 advice ? plz - TheWatcher - 20-11-2009 18:42 Standalone DVD players are unlikely to be able to read video files burnt onto a CD even if they fit on it ok. Some DVD players will only accept DVD-R or DVD+R, not both. The disks also need finalising before they can be played. Nerovision express does all that is needed. If you search through the Tech section there has been a lot of help posted in the past about burning DVDs. RE: Any tech guys on at the moment 4 advice ? plz - stevesworld - 20-11-2009 21:12 Will anything other than Nero (maybe something I have) finalise a video CD ? My DVD player does play video CD's ie:a CD with a film on it (don't know if there are different formats of these). I'm basically trying to find out if I can accomplish this with the tools I have at my disposal, without having to purchase Nero. What format / file type am I supposed to try burn as a Video CD...? Ta RE: Any tech guys on at the moment 4 advice ? plz - TheWatcher - 20-11-2009 22:33 The Video CD format is different than normal DVD format. It uses mpeg1 not mpeg2. Check this out. http://www.mightycoach.com/articles/videotips/whatarevcds.html This looks like a good alternative to nero, not tried it myself http://www.blazemp.com/vcd_burning_software.htm with a free 15 day trial version here http://www.blazemp.com/downloads.html RE: Any tech guys on at the moment 4 advice ? plz - stevesworld - 20-11-2009 23:55 Thanks for the time and links Watcher, I'll give that a try tomorrow...
