Bobby Charlton - Fieldy - 14-12-2008 21:47 How good was it to see him get the lifetime achievment award tonight, a totally honest and gracious guy, who seemed totally humbled with his reception, where newer "Stars" are consumed with there "publicity" and "marketability" for their future, he seems totally happy with the life he has had and whatever the future throws his way. Please don't get me wrong I am not a Man Utd fan (never have been and never will), but I think this man is an example for what all footballers should aspire to. RE: Bobby Charlton - rover - 14-12-2008 21:58 Absolutely agree Fieldy like you I am not a man utd fan but bobby charlton is a great ambassador for football and thoroughly deserves the award. I was quite surprised that lewis Hamilton did not win the sports personality of the year but Chris Hoy was a good choice. RE: Bobby Charlton - Moorey - 14-12-2008 22:04 Hard to disagree really. Sadly, it's a different day and age. I'm not exactly old at 20, but even my upbringing seems a mile away from how some children are brought up. Basically, blame teenage pregnancies. I guess that there is just too much of a stigma around footballers I suppose. Women want them, even though *most* of them are just superficial. Guys I guess want to be them because of all the women they could potentially get because of it. Let's not forget the money. But really... are they all that special? Of course, there are a lot of footballers who just get on with it, which is the way it should be. Personally thought that Rebecca Addlington would win, but hey for the first time in a long time this year was an open year, and however won deserved it, as it was voted for by the public . RE: Bobby Charlton - jungleboy - 14-12-2008 22:31 I thought Andy might sneek third, but other than that my prediction was spot on. Bobby definately has earned that award! Seems like a generally nice bloke. |
