Google - Google Instant & Autcomplete - skateguy - 10-09-2010 04:21 Google have now introduced 'Google Instant' - a new feature that annoyingly attempts to guess each word as you type. Thankfully you can turn this option off easily. However, even with 'Instant' switched off, Google will still suggest completed search terms (autocomplete) as you type. While its offered this 'autocomplete' feature for some time, until now it could also be disabled. So if having Google trying to double guess you pisses you off as much as it does me, then using the following URL will allow you to search without the distraction of suggestions appearing. I've now set this as my homepage instead of the regular Google web address. http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0&hl=en RE: Google - Google Instant & Autcomplete Suggestions - Mister Gummidge - 10-09-2010 04:28 Cheers for the tip. ![]() On the downside, turning off the option to have Google offering you a list of completed search terms, does mean missing out on this sort of thing, though. ![]() http://i50.tinypic.com/30wnprp.jpg http://i34.tinypic.com/ifajjn.jpg RE: Google - Google Instant & Autcomplete - trevor format - 10-09-2010 09:35 The new system doesn't seem to work for me anyway, I don't know why. It's still the same as it was before. It's still the same as it was before. Its supposed to be rolled out in the US, UK and a few other European countries first. That said, its not active on google.co.uk yet where the autocomplete function can still be disabled - I assume this is maybe a temporary status. Google on Firefox force redirects google.com to google.co.uk so most Firefox users probably haven't seen it yet. RE: Google - Google Instant & Autcomplete - mitchell - 10-09-2010 13:59 Ive got no problems with that, but what has cheesed me off is the change to google images, instead of clicking next page now you scroll down & wait for them to load & if you click an image once you go back they have to load again & the search info on the left... Just no need ![]() ![]() RE: Google - Google Instant & Autcomplete - chrislatimer - 10-09-2010 14:26 luckily i type fast enough so google instant is a non factor. RE: Google - Google Instant & Autcomplete - Red - 12-09-2010 18:50 Of course nobody would dare suggest to actually try using a different search engine or a metasearch if they weren't happy with Google ![]() ![]() ![]() |
