I tried to play guitar hero once, I did'nt really like the game, plus the sound of the buttons sounded too much like the sounds in South Park episode Guitar Queer-o. So I could'nt bring myself to play it again.

Wouldn't go that far JC. If you're buying the full set (drums/guitar/mic) get the Guitar Hero package as the drums in that are far better.
As for Rock Band, 1 has Smashing Pumpkins, Metallica, Boston, The Rolling Stones, Deep Purple, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden... the list goes on. That's only Rock Band 1!
Guitar Hero 4 has a few goodies, BYOB, Everlong, Misery Business, Pull Me Under just to name a few.
