Scotland's 4-6-0 formation - cheesyboy - 10-10-2010 10:31

I am shocked that nobody on here has mentioned Scotland's new attackless formation of 4 - 6 - 0.
This was a total embarrassment even for us scots. Craig levein should hang his head in shame and do the decent thing, quit.
What do you folks think.

Should have played a more attack minded formation, say 10-0-0 SadSadSadSad

Rangers played like that against Man U in the champions league the other week.

Must be a Scottish thing.

I can sympathise with you Scotland fans. It was very disappointing to lose a goal after setting a stall out to defend and get a draw.

That is the risk Levein was always going to take though, and when it didn't work he had no back up plan in place. I can understand your frustration because Mick McCarthy sometimes goes ultra defensive at Wolves and that backfires on us too.

I think Levein should have played at least one forward. You can still be defensive, every player should be able to do a job, regardless of his starting position. Kris Boyd or Kenny Miller surely would have been able to play the lone striker role, and then you've always got a better chance of getting a goal with a recognised striker, as the attacking instincts would have been there..

Oh well.. back to the drawing board Levein... Sad

He was obviously goin there for a point in the hope he would turn them over at Hampden Park as he probably sees the Czechs as his main rival for 2nd in the group. But they couldn't hold onto a clean sheet..Copycat performance of Rangers at Old Trafford. It didn't work out for him..The Czech Republic are a shadow of the side they used to be and lost their last game at home to Lithuania i think?Think that's why the Scottish fans are so pissed off by the formation i'd imagine?
He'll probs look back and regret it at the end of the group?Who knows they might turn Spain over on Tuesday without Nando in the side.

The problem with such a way of playing emerges if you go a goal down, particularly if it happens relatively late in the game. To go from an ultra defensive mindset to a game chasing attacking style is not easy especially when going from having no striker to one or two. Not having a striker prevents any opportunity to work the opposition back line or defend from the front which will often mean that wave after wave of opposition pressure and midfield chlostrophobia ensues. There are teams far worse than Scotland who play at least one striker. Somewhere down the line Scotland will be faced with games where 0-0 will just not do. A 4-6-0 formation is just depressing.
