People seemed to like the Hubble Advent Calendar posted above, so here's the third annual Hubble Space Telescope Imagery Advent Calendar for 2010:

Also, you might be interested in the first (2008) Calendar, which includes some amazing images using Hubble's deep field array (allowing it to photograph apparently empty areas of space over a period of months to reveal stars and galaxies we never know existed):

10 million Facebook users... - MeTarzan - 15-12-2010 00:17

Here's a visualization of the friendship connections between 10 million Facebook users.

The creator took a 2% sample of friendship pairs from Facebook’s data warehouse, combined that data with each user’s current city and then
summed the number of friends between each pair of cities.

He then merged the data with the longitude and latitude of each city.

The result is stunning:

A full hour before the formal announcement of Bin-Laden’s death, Keith Urbahn posted his speculation on the emergency presidential address.

Below is a visualization of the network graph showing the spread of Keith Urbahn’s single speculative tweet about Bin-Laden’s assassination across users on Twitter.

A rather good example of Flash/image integration called "Hong Kong at Dusk" (takes a few seconds to load):-

- Place your cursor at the top of the photo. You will notice it is 6:10 PM.

- Bring the mouse down slowly over the photo without pressing the button on the mouse. Do not right or left click.

- Night time appears, the lights come on, and at 7:40 PM, it's dark!
