It may interest some members to know that Primetime has obtained the rights to broadcast the Strikeforce World Grand Prix heavyweight tournament 2011, starting on 12 Feb. Click this banner for further info: This is a press release for the first fight night: STRIKEFORCE has assembled 8 of the world's top ranked heavyweights to compete in the STRIKEFORCE World Grand Prix - Heavyweight Tournament, a 3-stage, single-elimination tournament that will take place over several events in 2011. The first two quarter-final fights begin on Saturday 12 Feb live on PRIMETIME from the IZOD Center in NJ. In the main event, the 34-year-old Fedor Emelianenko will face the towering Antonio "Big Foot" Silva (15-2) in a STRIKEFORCE and M-1 GLOBAL co-promoted event. Co-featured on 12 Feb, former world champion Andrei Arlovski (15-8) will face Sergei Kharitonov (17-4), Pride FC and K-1 veteran as well as the last man to defeat current STRIKEFORCE Heavyweight World Champion Alistair "The Demolition Man" Overeem. Primetime is broadcasting the entirety of the Strikeforce Challengers competition free to air as it establishes itself as the broadcast home of UK MMA. Strikeforce Challengers is an MMA series produced by Strikeforce and Showtime to showcase and highlight up-and-coming fighters. Challenger events have allowed fighters to gain their first experience of a live televised environment and we have been lucky enough to see such stars as former Light Heavyweight Champion Rafael ‘Feijao’ Cavalcante, Matt Lindland, Ryan Couture (son of Randy) and Sarah Kaufman appear. You can safely watch without missing the babe show night time action, as the event finishes at 10.00. |
