For me Man U 0 - 5 Chelsea in October 1999

RE: Your Clubs Worst Permance Ever - lindor - 16-02-2011 17:35

Great thread idea Steven6!

I well remember the 5-0 defeat at Chelsea; we'd gone a long time unbeaten and then went 1-0 down to a Chris Sutton goal inside the first minute live on Super Sunday, when Taibi flapped at a cross. And it all went downhill after thatSad

But for me there was a far worse one in September 1995!

I had just spent the Summer gambling my student grant away and was broke until my next-term student grant. I borrowed £50 off my dad, and together we embarked on a sports day. Part one was a day at Chester races, where I did my money on every single race and was £28 out of pocketSad Oh well, there's still the inevitable goal-fest to come tonight, I thought!Big Grin.

So on we went to Old Trafford, for the second-round League Cup tie first leg against York City. The team was the usual mix of up-and-coming youngsters and bit-part squad players, but still it should've been easy enough. However, coupled with a sending-off, this was collectively one of the worst performances in United's history, a night where no-one even performed averagely; Paul Parker, one of my all-time favourite United players, was so bad that he even got my vote as worst player on the pitcheek

Final score: Manchester United 0-3 York City! Oh and just to rub it in, when I checked my fixed-odds coupon I found I had 12 out of 13 correct result predictions! Guess which one let me down!annoyed

Liverpool 1-2 Barnsley in the FA Cup 5th round in February 2008 WAS, for me, our worst performance ever for the exact same reasons as lindor. I had the misfortune of being at the gameTongue Went to Liverpool with the bird for valentines weekend on the Friday morning. Had no plans to go to the game. Then while travelling in to Liverpool city centre, from the airport, i got chatting to the taxi driver who had 2 spare tickets. I got around the missus and bought the 2 tickets £50 each for the Anfield Road end. Disastrous decision!!!!! We were terrible throughout but looked like getting a replay until Brian Howard scored for Barnsley in injury time!!! The bird (who i'm no longer with) wasnt a footy fan and she was more than happy to rub it in because i had ruined her Saturday by taking her to a footy match......Very sore memoriesTongueTongue

However, that result was trumped this season when Wolves beat us 1-0 at Anfield in December. I wasnt at this game(thank f**kTongue) but watching it on tv, I can honestly say it was the worst performance i have ever seen from a Liverpool side. We were second best all over the pitch, never looked like scoring, never troubled the Wolves goalkeeper. The players looked laboured, uninterested and the crowd was flat. This was the low point of Roy Hodgsons short reign and it made my mind up that maybe he had to go. SadSad

Last season a weekend in London was completely ruined for me by Chelsea hammering Villa 7-1 at Stamford bridge but even that cant live up to being totally humilated by Birmingham 3-0 at St Andrews in 2002 still find that game hard to talk about

As a Spurs fan there's a few I could mention, but one that sticks in my mind was a second half performance in an FA Cup 5th Round replay in 2004 against Man City.

'Deadly' Ledley King had given us the lead after two mins, with another two being added before half time with Barton being sent off for City for giid measure. Surely a 3 goal lead and a one man advantage would be eniugh, especially at White Heart Lane??? Not a bit of it, City got one back about 1min after the break and the rest as they say was history, we ended up going down 4-3 in one if the most shocking collapses i've ever seen, Wright-Phillips netting a 90th minute winner!

That was a bad night, made worse by some banter me & a friend had had with some City fans ar half time! To be fair, they brought us a consolation drink at the end so was all good natured, but totally gutting!

As a Wolves fan there's plenty I could mention here. One particularly bad one was the miserable 1-0 loss away to Gillingham in the championship of 2004, that turned out to be Dave Jones' last game as manager.

It was an abject, resigned display that really summed up the mood around the place after we were relegated from the premiership the previous season. Sad

I remember, when Bolton were still bumming around in the lower divisions, losing 3-0 at home to Northampton. I was so shocked I nearly didn't go to the pub.
