Facebook problems - Jam Da Man - 13-04-2011 20:24

For the last 2 nights, I haven't been able to view Facebook properly.

Here's what I get when I go to my wall -

It scrolls down a fair bit, showing apparantly random bits of other people's wall posts.
I've tried emptying my cache, deleting cookies and defragging my laptop.
I also tried logging out, and back in again.
Also tried accessing Facebook from a Google search, rather than using a bookmark. Other Facebook pages I have as bookmarks look pretty much the same as above.

I asked someone earlier if their's was the same, but he said it was fine, normal.

All other sites load okay, it's just Facebook. I'm using Google Chrome, but tried IE8 and Firefox just now with the same result. It displays okay on my mobile phone though.

Is anyone else having/had this problem? Any help would be great.

There's a two year old thread here where someone describes the same CSS/Style Sheets issue, also in mutiple browsers, on facebook. He eventually discovered it was an issue with another program he had installed - a web filtering program. Have you installed anything that might be preventing the site from displaying properly? Any type of parental protection or spam/pop up blocker?

Thanks for that Skate.
I downloaded WinRar (trial) the other day, might be something to do with that, maybe? I'll try uninstalling it.
I don't know really know much, tech wise, but currently I only have AVGfree as antivirus/protection (with Avira as a backup) , and I've had that on for months. I'll try running those to see if anything's hiding.
Cheers. Smile

Well, I havent exactly solved what was causing Facebook to load the way it was, but I found a workaround (of sorts)

Scrolling down, I clicked on "Account", (either this page or the next, can't remember now, displayed properly)
then,
"Account settings" - "Account Security" - tick the "Browse Facebook on a secure connection (https) whenever possible" button.
Save changes, and that's sorted it. For now.

Before I did that, I uninstalled a load of stuff, scanned with AVG twice (in safe mode), searched through no end of folders (hidden ones too) looking for any dodgy looking files. used CCleaner a few times again and generally shouted at my laptop a lot. None of which worked.

I coudn't find anything that might be filtering stuff... but then I don't really know what to look for. I also tried blocking AVG, in case that was doing it (but, apparantly not.)

Anyway, it works now. Smile

is anyone getting this problem with Facebook? - a_j216 - 31-01-2012 21:22

Is anyone getting this on top of their news feed page on their facebook: "This group is scheduled to be archived"? It's left me abit worried..I am not a 'group' and do not want to re-add people again!! :S

I used to see that message a lot; I think it's basically something to do with the way Facebook "stores" Group pages.
It doesn't affect your account or friends list in any way, nor should it affect which group pages/fan pages you "like" or are a member of.

The best faceb**k message I ever did see...

"You're account has successfully be de-activated"
