sri lanka all out for 82, england win by an innings and 14 runs.
england had 3 bowlers today, is the way forward?

What on earth were some of Sri Lankas batsmen playing at?
Some loony bin shots contributed to their demise. However England bowled well and what a victory 
. Excellent start to the summer.

No cricket until 3pm and who'd have thought that we could have got a result.
So today it's England 1, Wales 1 (with Swansea winning the playoff ) we just need the Scot to win his tennis match... but it's not looking good as he's losing the 1st set 5-1.

3 bowlers is enough if you only need to bowl 24.4 overs to get the opposition out.

I wasn't expecting to see us get the win yesterday at all. I switched on the TV at lunchtime before heading off to my match and saw there was no play at that time. Was umpiring and after drinks someone came back onto the field and said what had happened. Good stuff.
Dernbach has got the call-up to take the place of Jimmy for the 2nd test. Either him or Finn fighting over the place.

Both sides strong in batting,Sri Lankan bowling attack looks weaker than most Div 1 county sides.England could pick any 4 from their 12 best fit bowlers & still have the edge.Home advantage also a key,England could win 3-0 if the rain stays away long enough.

i would pick 4 pace and 1 spinner in case the sri lankan batsmen have a very good spell of batting. also keeps the pace bowlers fresh and potential injury risk is reduced.

When England were 20 odd for 3, I would have been satisfied for us to reach about 300 all out.
But we are now 448 for 8..
Sri Lanka haven't helped themselves, how many missed chances have they failed to hold. Their wicketkeeper is the worse that I have ever seen. He doesn't seem to realise that you can actually dive for the ball.
Prior is just out.. so we are now 448-9. He was out to their best fielder Mr LBW

sri lanka 372-3, the england bowlers lacked imagination and fire, should have picked a fourth pace bowler which would have allowed them to rotate the bowling and the bowlers steaming at full tilt with swann holding the end up.
draw unless tomorrow the bowlers and fielders find some fire and get 7 quick sri lankan wickets.

England made a bid to get some quick runs so that they could declare.
However it cost a few of the batsmen their wickets, including Matt Prior who was stupidly run out. When he returned to the dressing room, a window above the members area was suddenly broken....
