Wen Jiabao Visit - Scottishbloke - 26-06-2011 22:21

Wen Jiabao is currently on a 3 day visit to the UK and although the main reason for this will be to further trade and relations I would be interested to know if at any point David Cameron will discuss China's human rights record as it is possibly one of the worst in the entire world. Astonishingly 68 crimes in China are punishable by the use of the death penalty. I've allways been against this practice irrespective of the crime but surely even the most hardened of pro death penalty supporters would draw the line at the amount of executions carried out per year which is in it's thousands in China to think that this is justifiable. I urge David Cameron to to have the balls to challenge this issue. Your thoughts please.

I doubt Cameron raising these issues would help change things in any way at all. The primary impetus for change needs to come from within China itself and indeed this is happening as China develops a wealthy middle class. These pressures will have much effect than anything Cameron does here.

At least we haven't seen a repeat of the last Chinese state visit when Tony Bliar ordered the Met to clear protesters away by force to prevent them being seen by the Chinese.

When you look at the censorship currently being applied in this country what with ofcom and look at China, only then do you realise we could be worse, at least we are still able to voice our discontent at the government, quangos or anything else not to our liking. I can say David Cameron is a fucking wanker without the fear of arrest so for that I'm thankful. Have you ever noticed also with poor wages and the way the workers are treated in China that this leads to inconsistency's in product too. How many times has something broken down or packed in and you take one look at the label and it says made in China. If you want to buy the best then buy products from Japan or Germany, who would have thought we were once at War with these countries. But yes China are at present the biggest threat on the military front so politically it's probably best not to interfere with the way they run their affairs despite having an atrocious record when it comes to human rights.
