The Premier League's 10 Most Overrated Players - 7 stars of the orient - 17-11-2011 13:34 I was just listening to Talk Sport and heard this rundown of the Premier League's most overrated players. I have to say I was a bit surprised at this list and I don't agree with hardly any of it. THE TOP 10 MOST OVERRATED PLAYERS IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE 1. Andy Carroll 2. Adel Taarabt 3. Jordan Henderson 4. Theo Walcott 5. John Terry 6. Shaun Wright-Phillips 7. Joey Barton 8. Micah Richards 9. Jamie Carragher 10. Carlo Cudicini RE: The Premier League's 10 Most Overrated Players - groundnpound - 17-11-2011 14:15 Agree with you there mate. Does anyone really rave about any of the the lads on that list and over rate them? There's 5 young lads trying to improve and become quality players (Carroll, Henderson, Walcott, Taarabt and Richards) Two veterans who've had top careers and are legends at their clubs (Carra,Terry). Then there's SWP and Joey Barton tell me anyone who overrates them two lads? Cudicini!! Jeez, can't remember the last time i seen the lad? Pretty poor list for me. RE: The Premier League's 10 Most Overrated Players - Money_Shot - 17-11-2011 15:08 The list itself is very poor, as mentioned by groundNpound it has 5 young players still looking to improve. SWP would be perhaps one to throw in their. He came through at City and was hyped up massively. Moved to Chelsea where he never delivered, he hasn't delivered on the international scene nor did he when he returned to City. Will probably remain an average player now he is a QPR so I can understand perhaps why he would be on the list. Joey Barton was pretty instrumental last season for Newcastle along with Nolan. I don't think Barton has a huge amount to prove as I wouldn't say he is massively rated as a top class player. A hard working tough tackling midfielder but not world class. Harsh he is on the list. Agree again with groundnpound - Terry and Carragher have both delivered for club and arguably country. I wouldn't say either of them have been world class at international level but then I'd argue who has been in an England shirt. Carlo Cudicini is another harsh one to throw in there. He was number two to Ed De Goey for years at Chelsea and they paid about £330,000 for him. Hardly a price tag of expectation. He then had a chance under Ranieri (I think) and was a decent consistent keeper until Cech arrived. Ranieri actually considered Cech to be an under study for Cudicini but when Jose took over he made Cech number one. He spent several seasons on the bench then moved to Tottenham on a free and had a major bike accident and lucky to be able play football full stop. Was the list of players by the listeners or by the presenters of Talkshit radio ? RE: The Premier League's 10 Most Overrated Players - gazfc - 17-11-2011 15:15 Adel Taarabt was excellent against the poor sides in the championship but once hes up against anyone with a decent defence he not only struggle's but chucks his toys out the pram, he did it against us, agrued with his team mates, just walked around the pitch sulking then spent the better part of 5 mins making that gesture players make when wanting to be subbed, funnest thing I've ever seen. RE: The Premier League's 10 Most Overrated Players - terence - 17-11-2011 15:17 bendtner didn't make the list?!! wtf! RE: The Premier League's 10 Most Overrated Players - Money_Shot - 17-11-2011 15:26 nor did Veron - went to both Chelsea and United and done very little at either. RE: The Premier League's 10 Most Overrated Players - Phoenix - 17-11-2011 17:12 Don't agree with any of them RE: The Premier League's 10 Most Overrated Players - cosmonaut - 17-11-2011 18:16 I don't think Veron counts as he's not a Premier League player now. I think my own top choice would be Modric. I'm frankly baffled as to why Chelsea were offering £40m for him. Maybe I haven't watched enough Spurs games? I think Gareth Bale should be in there for sure. After a couple of good games last season some people said he was the best in the world, lol. Carrick is another who springs to mind, as he seems very ordinary to me for a Man Utd player, despite regular England call ups. Then how about Glen Johnson? How many caps has he got for England, despite being pretty average. For a 5th and final choice I almost went for Torres, but I have a suspicion that he may well come good for Chelsea in the end. I'll go for Charlie Adam instead. He was good by Blackpool standards, but I can't see why Liverpool wanted him. RE: The Premier League's 10 Most Overrated Players - Money_Shot - 17-11-2011 18:49 Perhaps Veron was more a Premiership flop then over rated I'd agree with you there Cosmonaut on Glen Johnson. I think he isn't bad going forwards but defensively he is poor. He was poor at West Ham and was surprised when Chelsea brought him, then he went to Portsmouth and didn't look so bad but arguably in a lesser team, then Liverpool brought him and again I think he stands out as inferior in their defence. Modric and Bale I'd disagree with, I think Bale has pace and skill, Modric is a class play maker. Both find goals through the season too. Carrick is a funny one. He some times looks a yard off the pace, but other times he put's in performances. I think he has done okay at United and Fergie normally has players playing as the team so he fits in well. England wise I wouldn't say he is a regular. If there was one player at United in recent history I always wondered it was Wes Brown. But he is at Sunderland now so doubt he'll be in the England squad again. RE: The Premier League's 10 Most Overrated Players - eagle_si - 17-11-2011 18:59 Aaron Lennon of Spuds is IMO the most overrated player in the Premier League. Being able to run fast does not automatically make you a great player. We saw in the World Cup what he's really made of, i.e. not very much at all. |
