American Football - The Rules - whizzer - 23-03-2012 21:54

Can anyone give me an easy to understand summary of how american football is played? A sort of beginners guide to what the basic rules are? I've been reading up on it but it seems like a very complicated game.

Each team has about 20 gorgeous cheerleaders.
That all you need to know.

And there's something about moving the ball 10 yards in four plays.. but it's more fun looking at the girls.

The advanced rules are complicated but forget those to start with. Just pick up the basics which are simple. 4 attempts to get 10 yards, if you get 10 yards you get another 4 attempts to get 10 more yards, if not the ball goes to the other team. 6 points for a touchdown, 3 points for a field goal, 1 point for a conversion. That's it!

ive been into nfl for 26 years now and best way to get into it to concentrate on the basics which have been explained. another way of scoring is a safety which is 2 points

reccomend you choose a team as that will help to

right about the cheerleaders charlemagneBig Grin last october i was a few feet from the tampa bay buccanneers cheerleaders

It's not nearly as complicated as it looks, it's just that the Yanks are masters at making easy sports seem very tricky.

Thanks for all replies. I thing I've getting the hang of it now. But one thing I don't understand is how many substitutions can a team make and if a player's substituted in NFL can he return to the field later on?

Each team now has 46 players (used to be 45) for each match, and they have 11 on the field at any one time. There is no limit on substitutions

That many sounds a little crazy. Typically, how many of those players actually get on to the field?
