Why would you go to WH Smiths to surf the web and look at glamour sites?

Blocking 'adult' content via free wifi is kinda fair enough I suppose, and apparently Sky have been doing this for some time already, it's nothing new. The problem as always is that many perfectly legitimate sites get caught in the 'adult' category as well.

The article in the Sun is typical tabloid nonsense and inaccuracies, but this has been coming for a while now, Cameron has been pushing it hard, with the isp's generally opposed to the idea, preferring customers to opt-in to filtering rather than opt-out, as at present.
Again, the main problem is the sites that get caught in the trap, we've seen the likes of sky and virgin bar access to file sharing sites because they have fallen into their existing blocks because of some file uploaded to them. They call it a porn block, but it will no doubt cover other 'adult' sites as well once in place, such as gambling sites, which may in turn knock out legitmate sports news sites that rely heavily on gambling advertising etc (ironically, even the Sun's own page3 site will likely be banned).

As for adultwork, well yes, almost certainly that will be barred. This forum may well fall into the block as well because of the nature of the pics and vids content. These sites may not disappear immediately, it may take a while for their filters to cover them, they may target the out and out porn sites first, and adjust the filters over time as they get going.

Don't you just love living in a free society Smile

Didnt you also have to vote in last years babestation awards from your local branch of Currys? im starting to wonder if its your house that has these porn filters and thats why your having to use high street stores wi-fi to find porn Wink

incidentally O2 doesnt let me surf to anything porn, glamour or sex related, even this forum unless i use a credit card to pay and verify myself (despite this being a monthly contract phone which I am sure by definition I would have needed to be over 18 to take out). Normally I can hold off my sexual urges while walking around "The Works" or "Poundland" long enough to get home Smile

The Mirror reports that porn will also be banned at home and that we should get a letter at the end of the year about it. If you wanted to carry on, you have to tick a box. :|
