Channel 4 to air daily Muslim call to prayer during Ramadan - ChocChip - 02-07-2013 16:44

Curious as to what you guys make of this:

Just a side-note however, I'd rather not be swathed in any incoherent vitriol or Islamophobic remarks. So, thoughts?

Think its a good idea after all we have to put up with Masses and carol services during Xmas and Masses and all the stuff for Easter. and Islam is the 2nd biggest religion in the UK.

I have no problems with it, call to prayers (muslim wail) is a beautiful thing, coming from a Christian.

On mainstream TV, taken as TV out put as an whole, there is very little proper religious stuff on it, it's easy to avoid if you don't want to see it (despite what militant athiest will have you believe Wink)

Doesn't bother me. I've heard the call to prayer on travel shows before and you're right tuesdayslump, it is a beautiful thing.

I don't really see why anyone should have a problem with it. We're very much a secular country now but we still get Sunday/Easter/Christmas programmes for Christians, so why not Ramadan for Muslims? It's harmless.

Urbi et Orbi is for Catholics not C of E, but we get it every Easter.

Well exactly, if the other Abrahamic religions get programmes for their different denominations why not include Islam as well.

No problem at all. We live in a multi-cultural society. More awareness of each others beliefs can only assist in breaking down barriers and help reduce extremism on all sides. They have done it before without too much trouble so doubt it will cause too much outrage...well maybe with readers of the Daily Mail bladewave

Seems like an improvement on most of Channel 4's usual output. But it does get tiresome that they only do these things as a wind-up (cf. Paralympic coverage).
