Fargo - RatedR - 01-06-2014 11:51

I'm surprised there is not much about Fargo in this section. Is anyone watching the TV series?

It's loosely based on the movie of the same name, taking alot of the characteristics from it and expanding on the Coen's idea of a 'true crime' story. Story wise, It follows on from the movie in part, but seeing the movie is not vital to it. The important thing is the setting of Minnesota and new characters that have no ties to the film. There are some reused elements, of course, and alot of new ones.

I actually prefer it to the movie, as it has longer to develop, and there are some excellent performances by a great cast with a great script.

I rate it higher than Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D from this years TV show offerings, and I'd recommend it, whether you have seen the film or not.

One of my fave films & haven't been disappointed by the series.Still not sure about Martin Freeman though.

I think he's doing a great job. I was unsure if i'd get over the fact he's British when I saw the trailer, but knowing the film I thought it would be worth watching anyway, and I haven't been disappointed. I think overall the casting is fantastic. I wasn't sure of the Lorne Malvo dialogue from the first trailer, but in context it's perfect. Very calculated and calm, and quite litterally puts the fear of god into people.

I also like the way alot of the interactions are shot. There's no need for multiple cameras, just one fixed shot from the side, something else that's taken from the film and expanded on. It makes for some great images and even the extras are good in the background of those scenes.

Love the dark humor, so funny at times....

it's so well written. From the first episode's 'ohh yar' sex scene with added impaling, to Malvo's 'here, hold this' as he threatens a man in a store room. Love it all.

Martin Freeman brutally riding the widow, who he is misleading, whilst staring at her dead husbands rodeo fancy dress photograph Big Grin A quality devious character

Billy Bob Thornton has to clean up the awards this year. I haven't seen a sociopath quite like Lorne Malvo on TV and he plays it perfectly. Even his fringe adds to his character lol.

Heck, it's a perfect show all round

I recommend that people download the entire series and watch it. The first episodes are no longer available on 4od.
