Richard Branson's Vigin Galactic space craft - SpaceShip Two - crashed during what was supposed to be a routine flight over the Mojave Desert in California. One pilot was killed, the other received serious injuries.

After seeing pics of the crash scene you have to wonder how one of the pilots survived. However he's in a seriously condition.

To his credit Branson has vowed to keep this project going.
Test pilots are involved in an extremely dangerous job and without their courage and, in some cases, sacrifice there would be not jet aircraft or spacecraft.
During the early days of jet engined aircraft those test pilots suffered horrendous causalities. There was at one time, during the early 1950's, they suffered one death by accident each week.
