City Link goes into administration - Billy_Nomates - 26-12-2014 11:58

The parcel delivery company City Link has gone into administration. Over 2,700 jobs will be lost.

I mention this because many years ago I was employed by City Link.

Noticed that news this morning. I worked in the logistics/distribution business for many years, and can't say I'm too surprised by this. City Link are a long time in the business, but have not really stepped up to the new challenges in the industry posed by things like online trade, they seem to have more or less stood still whilst others have prospered.
Another one I am surprised is still trading is Tuffnells. They used to be one of the big players, but others have come along and overtaken them, and they have stood still, but somehow manage to keep going.

Many online retailers are now pushing the parcel business even further, with later ordering times for next day deliveries being the current battle ground. I can see more companies struggling this year as they try to compete in this sector with ever decreasing margins.
