RIP - Dominique Dropsy - Charlemagne - 07-10-2015 09:52 Sad to see that former French international goalkeeper Dominique Dropsy has died of cancer at the age of 63. He was a member of the French team in the 1978 FIFA World Cup. He played in a total of 596 Ligue 1 matches between 1972-1989. I always remembered Dominique because his surname was one that you wouldn't want if you were a goalkeeper. RE: RIP - Dominique Dropsy - mr williams - 20-10-2015 18:16 Yes, they had Rust, Bats and Dropsy all around at the same time. The French were very unlucky in the 1978 World Cup. They were in a tough 1st round group with Italy, hosts Argentina and Hungary, and their late-night (UK time) match against the Argentinians was described by the BBC commentator Barry Davies as one of the greatest games of all time. France lost 2-1 but were denied what many thought was a stonewall penalty. Argentina had already lost to the Italians and had the French got a draw it would have been they, and not the hosts, who would have gone through in second place. RE: RIP - Dominique Dropsy - lovebabes56 - 23-10-2015 05:56 that was when they had the second round in groups back then in the World Cup. Whether that was a popular format or not I think many now prefer the KO stages now, but if they re - introduce thst format, would it be a better format now for today or not? and I guess when a certain M. Platini was in his prime too!! |
