Tributes are pouring in for the former Everton manager Howard Kendall who has died at the age of 69.

Kendall played for the Toffees and managed them on three occasions, with his first spell in charge being the most successful in the club's history.

He led the side to two First Division titles, as well as an FA Cup triumph and European Cup Winners' Cup win.

Kendall also took charge of Blackburn, Manchester City, Athletic Bilbao, Notts County and Sheffield United in more than 700 games of his managerial career.

As a player he started with Preston, and in 1964 became the youngest player (at that time) to appear in an FA Cup Final, before moving on to Everton, Birmingham and Stoke, ending his playing career as player/manager at Blackburn.

Despite having represented his country at junior, youth and under-23 level, Kendall was never picked for the full England side, and declined the offer of an interview for the England job when Bobby Robson stood down after the 1990 World Cup.

He has been described as a true gent, a great bloke and the finest manager Everton ever had.

RIP
