Sky Takeover - lovebabes56 - 21-07-2018 06:48 The UK Government has cleared a proposed deal for Rupert Murdoch's 21st Century Fox to buy Sky. The British broadcaster has been the subject of a fierce bidding war between Fox and US cable giant Comcast. Comcast's bid has already been cleared, and Culture Secretary Jeremy Wright said Fox can go ahead if it sells Sky News. Fox has been trying to get approval from UK regulators since 2016 to buy the 61% of Sky it does not already own. Politicians and regulators were concerned it could give Mr Murdoch too much power over the media in the UK. There were also worries about Sky News' long-term financial viability, and how independent it would be editorially. What I have also herd that Fox were also involved in a takeover of Disney RE: Sky Takeover - SecretAgent - 21-07-2018 07:11 (21-07-2018 06:48 )babelover48 Wrote: What I have also herd that Fox were also involved in a takeover of Disney No. Fox are subject of a taleover bid BY Disney RE: Sky Takeover - The Silent Majority - 21-07-2018 07:54 Comcast has pulled out of it's battle to buy Fox, to concentrate on buying sky. This leaves the way clear for Disney to get Fox. Opinion seems to be that once Disney get Fox they will then pull Fox out of the battle for Sky, leaving the way clear for Comcast to buy it. It seems Rupert may have been completely outmanoeuvered RE: Sky Takeover - lovebabes56 - 21-07-2018 09:32 One of the biggest concerns was the amount of media control Murdoch would have gained. So really a lot hinges on the Disney takeover being successful. RE: Sky Takeover - SecretAgent - 21-07-2018 09:43 ^ Still looks like you have not understood this. Those concerns you mentioned were IF Murdoch's Fox took over the rest of Sky that they do not own. The Government has secured assurances that would now allow that deal BUT Comcast have outbid Fox for the Sky assets and Disney have bid to buy Fox assets including Sky so the likelihood of Fox (Murdoch) owning the whole of Sky is now very remote. Sky looks like it will end up owned by Comcast or Disney RE: Sky Takeover - lovebabes56 - 22-09-2018 17:05 Auction is due to be brought to a close tionight RE: Sky Takeover - lovebabes56 - 22-09-2018 19:02 Comcast have won the auction RE: Sky Takeover - ShandyHand - 25-09-2018 18:30 Think Sky's ad revenue is important to the station's success?
