The Advance of the Far Left - southsidestu - 26-07-2018 23:07 I think it is abundantly clear at this point, when so many major Jewish bodies have come out and condemned the Labour party over it's failure to address anti Semitism and for it to miss the open goal of adopting the definition of anti Semitism set forth by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance that you have to admit that The Labour Party is now an anti Semitic party. It doesn't matter about Corbyn's intent, it doesn't matter how committed he claims to be, how it might only be prevalent in a minority of members of the party or Momentum, the fact of that matter is that the leadership is allowing an environment for it to flourish and if so many official Jewish bodies are united against the actions of the party you have to listen and accept what they are saying The advance of the far left goes further than just anti Semitism as the movement around it acts in the same way as the far right does, it latches on to the same sense of populism and looks to exploit it. It uses similar techniques as the far right, defending itself with whataboutry, when the subject of anti Semitism is brought up in the Labour party they deflect with "What about Islamophobia in The Tory Party?" or "What about Palestine?" the same techniques are deployed by the likes of Sean Hannity on Fox News when trying to defend Trump "What about Hilary's emails?" They seek to delegitimise the mainstream media with claims of bias, right wingers think the BBC is left wing, left wingers think the BBC is neo-liberal right wing. The absolute joke of hysteria surrounding Newsnight and their graphic of Corbyn wearing a hat was beyond beggars belief and just like the far right they seek to replace mainstream media with their own echo chambers: Novaro Media, The Young Turks, The Canary Both have a vast army of people online through social media looking to troll and harass anyone who speaks out against their cult like leaders What we are seeing in the Labour Party in regards to Brexit is an absolute shambles, no matter how many people from different political spectrums voted for it Brexit is rooted in far right ideology and will always be far right and to see the Labour Party fail to oppose the Tories has been disgraceful. We have seen Jeremy Corbyn tell the same lies as Farage or Iain Duncan Smith about how free movement of people has led to the undercutting of wages, in what is an attempt to pander to the millions of traditional Labour voters in the Northern heartlands who voted UKIP in the 2015 General Election. During Blair's leadership Labour were seen by many on the left as the Red Tories, now under Corbyn Labour are becoming Red Kippers There is a theory in politics, which I am sure many of you know, that is the Horseshoe Theory that suggest that the far right and the far left rather than being at opposite and opposing ends of a linear political continuum, in fact closely resemble one another, much like the ends of a horseshoe. It seems to me that this is where our political discourse is heading or already is as in the wake of 2008 Financial Crisis and Brexit both major parties seek to embrace populism RE: The Advance of the Far Left - Rake - 27-07-2018 06:40 The problem is that right now Steptoe and that very nasty piece of work McDonnell will be running the country following the next election whenever it might come, thanks to May's desperately poor judgement and duplicity. We are facing electoral catastrophe and a Labour landslide, as a direct result of Chequers. The country had previously stayed loyal and trusted Mrs May despite her poor judgement in calling and handling the last election, as well as her many other failings. The leave voters feel utterly betrayed and let down by Chequers and there is no way back for her in terms of ever regaining that trust. It is compounded by the insult to voters’ intelligence that she thinks she can get away with it and no-one would notice. It is hard to think of a more toxic mix. Only a Conservative leadership change that will deliver a genuine, honest Brexit that is not a sleight-of-hand con, will offer any hope of electoral salvation. Further, stumbling into a No Deal with May at the helm will not get her or the party any credit or relief either. Yes it would be a pure, unadulterated Brexit, but only by dint of her incompetence. The Horseshoe is accurate, both extremes are authoritarian, demonise entire sections of society, and adopt uncompromising stances underpinned by a conviction of being utterly and unchallengeably 'correct'. Both extreme wings invariably only achieve real power when led by charismatic psychopaths. The main difference boils down to whom they blame and therefore hate for all of societal ills. RE: The Advance of the Far Left - southsidestu - 29-08-2018 13:25 Jeremy Corbyn has to go, as a leader dealing with antisemitism he has been every bit as useless as Theresa May. His supporters continuing the trend of the Horseshoe Theory cry that this is all some media stitch up influenced by the Israeli lobby. Criticisms of Zionism are not necessarily anti-Semitic themselves but it is clear that Corbyn and his followers can no longer tell the difference. When he uses the term Zionist he uses it as a dog whistle slur for Jewish people. He has shared platforms with anti-Semites as well as Hamas, they argue that you need to meet with both sides in order to achieve a solution to the violence but he does not meet with Hamas to get their side of the story, he meets with them because he wants to advocate their cause. Same with the IRA. If Corbyn really is trying to meet both sides to come to a solution he should try meeting with the Israeli Government now and again. Even if everything that his followers say was correct and the Wreath Laying Ceremony for members of PLO and his remarks on Zionists not able to appreciate English irony were all some big media plot to oust him. None of that changes the fact the joint statement from 3 Jewish newspapers voicing their concern predates all of this. He appointed Shami Chakrabarti to investigate bigotry within the party after Ken Livingstone's anti-Semitic remarks and her report concluded that there was a toxic atmosphere within the party. Whether you agree with the IHRA's definition of antisemitism or not, the fact that it took him 2 yrs after the results of this inquiry, to implement his own definition is disgraceful, you are meant to be the leader. His inaction lead to a solidifying of the toxic atmosphere over the course of two years that prompted the responses being seen form The Jewish Community. This level of incompetence from a leader is damaging we see it in our current PM. Doesn't matter how much you may agree with his policies his inability to lead will be as detrimental to the country as May's has been. Still his followers leap to his defence, they engage in Fox News style whataboutism by bringing up Palestine, (the amount of Corbyn supporters I see on twitter with the Palestinian flag in their names is staggering, never saw it before the antisemitism crisis) or Islamophobia in The Tory Party. Yes Islamophobia in The Tory Party is rampant, it may even be worse than the antisemitism in The Labour Party, I don't know I don't keep score but even if it was 100 times as worse that does not diminish and does not detract from the antisemitism in The Labour Party. Another tactic they say is that Corbyn is the only chance to stop Tory Austerity and it about taking care of those in society who are suffering and in need due to the brutal cuts. Corbyn is not the only one in the party who opposes austerity, he is not the only one who supports those economic policies and its not like Labour have never been in power, I think other Labour leaders have beaten the Tories in the last 100 yrs. What they are essential saying is that bigotry is a price worth paying for socialist economics. Whether you think he is anti-Semitic or not, he is the leader and his inaction has allowed the toxic atmosphere to flourish and allow some not all Jewish people within the party and community at large to feel unsafe. The buck stops with him. Corbyn has to go RE: The Advance of the Far Left - Rake - 29-08-2018 14:25 One of the key hallmarks of both the extreme right or left is that self-serving dogma trumps pragmatism and the best interests of society as a whole. Dogma from both sides seek to split society between the self (those “deserving and righteous” belonging) and others (who don’t belong). This proves fertile ground for both racism and cultureism to grow. |
