Would you Intervene/help if you witness an attack on a Police Officer? - Jack the Nipper - 22-11-2018 18:08 Watching the disgraceful scenes on the media of the attack of 2 Police Officers by a couple of thugs in London earlier in the week where the female officer was 'karate kicked' to ground the ground.I put to you fellow forum members 'Would you help out if you witnessed an attack on a Police Officer?'.What was clear from the attack & other various similar incidents that can often be seen on YouTube that there are plenty of people who like filming incidents like this (& provide a running commentary) but do nothing whatsoever to help out whether physically or verbally. The Chairmen of Metropolitan Police Federation Ken Marsh even came out & said after the shocking scenes that the Police may have to let violent criminal's/suspect's go under certain circumstances. From my perspective as an ex-boxer turned body-builder (who also does a bit of mma training) who has been arrested twice in the past on two separate incidents for intervening after witnessing two people being attacked on which both times I was initially arrested but was later released without charge.I've also been stabbed twice in an altercation so my answer to the question of helping out particularly on a physical basis it would depend on the circumstances. There's an old saying I've always lived by which is 'It's not the man in front of you you should worry about but his friends standing behind you with the knife' which is why I say it would depend on the circumstances but verbally I would (shouting out every swear-word).Plus the whole Law around defending yourself, others & your property is so woolly (hence my previous arrests) which gives me a few doubts. But would does everyone else think? Please share your thoughts. The police should be the elite trained like the sas if they were they probably wouldnt be getting flying kicked in front of buses RE: Would you Intervene/help if you witness an attack on a Police Officer? - HannahsPet - 22-11-2018 18:54 Depends on a few things how many there are what do i have to defend myself ie bag? and i was a lot younger and fitter than i was when i have stopped a few drunken brawls in town on a sat night usally they see my 6ft4 20st frame and usally think better of it. but in this time with all the stabbings would think twice RE: Would you Intervene/help if you witness an attack on a Police Officer? - kelly1066 - 22-11-2018 19:52 even the police tell you not to get involved. they know how violent some of the public can be as there are so few deterrents these days or repercussions. also if you stop them getting a kicking they can't claim so much time off sick on full pay or compensation... so let them take it & protect yourself from recrimination. just my honest opinion. RE: Would you Intervene/help if you witness an attack on a Police Officer? - The Goatman - 22-11-2018 19:57 If you was a police officer kelly and i saw you getting attacked id save you RE: Would you Intervene/help if you witness an attack on a Police Officer? - kelly1066 - 22-11-2018 22:38 (22-11-2018 19:57 )goatman222 Wrote: If you was a police officer kelly and i saw you getting attacked id save you If they were mad enough to employ me as one, I'd likely already have the toe-rag in a headlock giving his face a good 'nailing', before moving onto his bollocks..!? RE: Would you Intervene/help if you witness an attack on a Police Officer? - lancealot790 - 22-11-2018 23:22 Never get involved let the police handle it, there are far too many idiots with knives and they are more than prepared to use them. The police are better equipped to deal with a dangerous situation than you and if they can't what chance does joe public have. From the footage I saw of the incident I was disgusted with the guy who filmed it rather enjoying the events judging by his commentary but did nowt else. I've seen a fair few altercations (or scraps) involving members of the public & the police of which the most memorable one I remember was about 4-5 years ago outside London Bridge Station when I was on my home from work around 4 o'clock-ish where about 5 coppers where trying to handicuff a guy but couldn't.The suspect wasn't a big guy or anything (& was about the same size as the coppers who were trying to apprehend him) but none of the coppers seem to have had clue on how to subdue or even citizens arrest him let alone handcuff him.Within what seemed about 5 minutes or so a meat-wagon pulled up 6 or 7 coppers jumped out & they all jumped on top of him like a rugby scrum.I'm just about old enough to remember the days when coppers chucked a guy in the wagon once the doors were closed he'd get a kick-in from the police. Agreeing with Goatmans & Lancelots comments though that police officers would be better served if they had some sort of self-defence training & whilst it may/may not be advantageous for all police to be armed with a gun but they should have all should be armed with alternatives like pepper spray & a taser. What I did learn (that I didn't know before)on a debate show yesterday about what happened was that if a Police-Officer asks the member of public for help & they refuse it is deemed a crime.I kid you not.
