I think TisWAS started at the same time as Swap Shop did on Saturday morning or just after.

Ha ha Noel Tidybeard, John Craven, Maggie Philbin and Keith "der we go" Chegwin oh yes I remember this and I even have a book they produced. Will photograph it and post soon,great idea mate.

I think what put me off Swap Shop ultimately was one particular morning when I heard the toe curling sound of John Craven (then known for Newsround - now a white haired presenter of Countryfile) singing eek

Was too much to bear..Bounce

At least when he presented Newsround he did the news in away so that kids understood what was going on in the world.

Oh yes well he was at heart a journalist. Mind you he tried singing the first time in the late 70's on the All-Star Record Breakers shows that used to be on around Christmas when BBC kids presenters did daft things like a Cinderella production with Lesley Judd as principal boy and John Noakes & Peter Purves dressed as ugly sisters.
Many people didn't realise how good Cheggers was as singer and performer(along with his brother and Janice Long, his sister and Radio 1 disc jockey) I watched Swap Shop for the cartoons as well like Autocat and Motormouse. Remember Eric the large plastic globe that held the viewers answer cards, and Igor the weird gloved hand and Posh Paws the dinosaur(anagram of Swap Shop)

Did anybody actually ring in? I didn't have much to swap in those days but it always made laugh to see what people wanted to swap - one kid wanted something really good and would swap his younger sister for it Big Grin
