He has made a full apology; at worst it was a grave error of judgement and naiviety and I am quite convinced there are people who don't follow the royals and would be unaware of what this connotation had, but I don't think he is racist. The BBC overreacted in my opinion -at best he should have been given a real carpeting or at worst suspended for a certain time, but total sacking? No, I don't think it warranted that. I wouldn't be surprised if Danny turned up on a rival station again-he has previous of course but then look at Kenny Everett and the number of stations he was sacked from. He's been a prat but paid the ultimate price for that stupidity.

there's no grey area here. his intent is racist af and he deserved to be sacked. to say he didn't know what he was doing is quite frankly, absurd. imo.

I just can't believe that he thought that picture was either funny or appropriate. Anybody with a modicum of intelligence can see how that is racist. It makes him no better than the morons who make monkey noises or throw bananas at black footballers. He was stupid to do it and deserved to be sacked.

He's supposed to be a professional Broadcaster although his track record suggests otherwise. Even if it wasn't intended to be racist it's quite obvious it could be taken to be.

To be perfectly honest every time I see Meghan & Harry together her heritage doesn't occur to me. I always think "the Ginger Lad's done well there" Wink

For me made a dumb comment and the excuse that he didn’t know the baby was mixed race bullshit excuse you can clearly tell Meghan is. Especially in this day and age the BBC had no choice but to do it.

The picture alone is not racist. It is a very old image which is if anything anthropomorphic. Therefore it might offend modern day sensibilities for that reason in of itself.

The context of Harry and Meghan's child being mixed race is what makes its use here in his tweet racially loaded and stunningly awful and insensitive. What the hell was he thinking of? How could he not have known the obvious interpretation? And that it was therefore career suicide?

I liked his show and he is a funny and intelligent and warm host. Never did he give any impression of being racist and so I really struggle to understand this act of crassness.

It's also extremely rude and unclassy to make fun of anyone's newborn baby, regardless of race or whether the parents are royals. I'm not normally politically correct at all, but the dude is an idiot for posting this and I can't blame his boss for firing him.
