Barry holds City talks - Wazo - 02-06-2009 14:50

Aston Villa have confirmed that midfielder Gareth Barry is holding discussions with Premier League rivals Manchester City

Dont get this at all thought he wanted to join a champions league team if he was going to leave villa if he does join city he will go down in my estimation as they say i guess money talks an thats the reason if he goes to city as city have no European football next year an ainit going to win anything anytime soon.lol an i ainit saying this cause i am a liverpool fan he would be better off staying at villa than going to city.

looks like hes chasing the money because city will do nothing next season and i can see hughes getting the sack if they dont come out of the blocks quickly

Surprised he didnt get the sack this season tbh what with the amazing expectancy at City now
But id be a bit of a hypocrite if i criticised City being a Chelsea fan Shy

As for Barry well he's a decent player but i dont think he's worth the amount of money their talking about (but who is these days Tongue) and im not really sure where he would fit in
They've already got Kompany, Ireland (Greeeeat Player btw), Zabaleta and a couple more in the centre of MF

Liverpool fans don't want Barry,we want to keep Alonso.

I do agree in that Barry has shown himself up to being a two-faced money-grabbing git.He has dumped on the Villa fans for the 2nd year running & lets hope Villa don't let him go to city for less than 25m & that city (with Barry) have a year every bit as successful as this last one laugh

Villa have let Barry go to city for 12m-confirmed.

Has gone down in my estimation now. Cant wait to see what reception he will get when he returns to villa park next season i reckon he will get booed. Shame most players move for there own greed these days.

Let's guess why he's gone - it couldn't be the money could it. No chance of trophies at city regardless of how much money they spend in the transfer market. At least if he'd gone to liverpool or arsenal he'd have had a fair chance - even at tottenham he might have got an fa cup out of it.

RE: Barry holds City talks - Mister Gummidge - 02-06-2009 20:48

Barry will prove to be a smart signing for City. He's got quality, experience, versatility, a good left foot and doesn't need to spend six to eight months adapting to the EPL way of playing. I can't claim to like the way he left Villa, but how many players end up as one club men these days? He'll fit in nicely with the way City are likely to form up as well.

City will offload a few in that central midfield area. Kompany, Flood, Hamann and Zabaleta would be my bets. Possibly Elano as well, although he might be kept as cover for the free role behind the striker that Robinho wiil hold in the 4-5-1 that city will doubtless play.

City didn't do too badly overall this season, considering the lack of a proven goalscorer and the shambles of a defence that Hughes inherited. No doubt Santa Cruz will sign during the summer, along with another two or three defenders. Assuming the four or five signings that Hughes is likely to make bed in quickly, then Europa league football beckons for them at a minimum. A goalscorer and a couple of defenders are all that City realistically need to turn rapidly from mid-table also-rans into a top six side. With the resources available to them that might not prove to be too much of a problem...

I for one am really surprised that he's gone
I didnt have him down as a money grabber at all
But kinda like you say Mr Gummidge...who isnt nowadays?

I think he should have stayed where he was, he would have better off going to some where like liverpool or maybe even arsenal or possible even everton. Only last year he wanted to move to a team so he play in the champion's league. Don't get me wrong Man City have some decent players and loads of money but doesn't mean it will buy you success, for as i see it the top 4 will be man utd, chelsea, liverpool and Arsenal, i can see it being very hard for man city to break up these teams. Good luck to them if can manage that.
