Legendary Irish broadcaster, presented The Late Late Show for decades on end, and now dead at 85. Some in Ireland hated him. C4 showed TLLS around teatime when I got in from school, which is where I saw it sometimes, so he seemed an alright cove to me.

One of the gentlemen of Chat Show genre broadcasting!! Was admired and respected by many in NI too whatever their identity/[politics! Interviewed all the players from a political time that was - as many of us know - ripe for protest over who got to sit down with him, and whether he should be giving them a platform at all! Genuine man, who interviewed to extract meaningful information for the viewer, and not just to facilitate the latest book/movie/dvd promotion!! Glad to see the back of chat shows myself, for that reason among others, but recognise the contribution he made to the 'art' of the interview!
