Hi

In the 1990s I had a friend who had spent 15 years in the Merchant Navy as a chef but was without any certificated qualification and so he had to work as a kitchen porter.
Went to work for Gary Rhodes, after a few days Gary had a chat with him and made the arrangements for him to retrain and gain certification.

My friend said Gary always took time to explain, no kitchen dramas and remembered all his staffs names

RIP Gary

It says Gary died in Dubai where he has two restaurants. He was still working on the day of his death, and died later with his wife at his bedside.

RIP Gary

I had the privilege many years ago to eat in 2 of his London restaurants and I have to say the food was exceptional. Rhodes in Tower 42 became an instant favourite and I took business guests there a number of times including on one occasion when I entertained some IT suppliers from India. Persuading them to have the "Trio of Deserts" to finish the meal and introducing them to Spotted Dick and I think Treacle Sponge and Jam Roly Poly was a delight for them and me. (I have to say when I visited them in India they treated me equally well).

A sad loss.

I would say although the likes Of Gordon Ramsey, Ainsley Harriott egtc, have made their mark on TV, I don't think we'll see a chef in the vein of Gary Rhodes again Gary probably was probably thr first real TV chef star.

A terrible shame. I loved his series, I always remember him making simple things like scotch pancakes and crumpets. Lead into Gold would have impressed me less.

59's no age. RIP Sad
