Fair play to his wife though. She must have better skills than Anna Bailey... Wink

First he came out of the broom cupboard.
Now he comes out of the closet.

It can't have been easy, but good for him.

Somewhat protected and privileged by the position he has built himself in surely the most tolerant industry going; but still a tricky, soul bearing, thing to have to admit in public how long he has kept this from his family in particular. Hopefully, his will be the last generation where people feel they have to live in denial, or hiding their sexuality from those closest to them, in any great number.

Def fair play to him for doing it, acknowledging it in public is a hard thing, especially when he probably started working at a time where many people were scared of coming out for fear of backlash, that decision to come out was probably something none of us expected from him. Now I hope he will be comfortable in his own skin and hopefully by seeing his statement that can only help others to make that public statement and be comfortable with it.

Andi Peters was definitely gay, his whole demeanour was more Graham Norton-like(spoke quickly, blubbed like a girl when he left CBBC) but Schofield(Hello Team!) was a happy chap, never really gave anything away if he was gay and I laughed my socks off the day on Going Live when he thought he had avoided a giant conker but it came back and belted him in the face! I imagine it was quite a shock for his family, but nothing like Frank(now Kellie) Maloney changing gender to a woman! I am a little sceptical though, why choose his own programme to announce it now? No doubt he will continue to get viewers, possibly gain more after this. We sound shocked but don't forget, no-one knew that Michael Barrymore was gay and he was also married.

I think he announced it on Instagram first, then there was definitely going to be a conversation on This Moring about it when he was next on.

As for viewers, I think it will remain largely the same. The majority of people will commend him for coming out but they won't be too bothered either way in terms of watching This Morning more.

Although there will likely be some miserable fucker with too much time on their hands who will whinge about boycotting This Morning because of them "forcing their agenda down people's throats" Rolleyes

Imagine if Katie Hopkins was still on twitter, she would definitely have had something mind numbingly stupid to say about the situation.

MY reaction was 'And...………..??' Having thought about it some more, I can't get why - having posted it on Instagram - he felt the need to 'broadcast' it to the entire nation on 'This Morning'! Felt like publicity seeking to me!! It should be of zero relevance to the masses 'sweaty or otherwise'. Surely this is a private matter!! Fine confide in his colleagues - Holly etc, but he could easily have done that in private!

It is a courageous 'never ever brave' thing to have done, to acknowledge his true self - particularly after all these years - I know what self doubt is, but don't tell me he was exercised by the struggles others are having with the same issue, and he was forming some sort of 'self help group'!

The only people he needed to reconcile this with were himself, wife, children (albeit adult now) and wider family, friend circle!!

Maybe I am missing something here, but where did this need to make ones sexual orientation (definitively a genetic natural state of being - can we stop the ignorance/prejudice) a public issue come from?? It is like he was seeking permission/justification from society?? Stuff society I say! An individuals private business is just that!

Stemmw is close to the mark as far as I am concerned!
