On an old computer I had Microsoft Edge and it came with a means to record the screen at the touch of a button. That machine self destructed and now I have a Chromebook which I like a lot more than previous gear, it seems sensible to me to have more of the machine supplied by one organisation.

I've been looking for a screen recorder on the Chromebook and with some effort I'm learning how to use Screencastify which is top of the recommended applications.

The maximum length of recording (for free) is only 5 minutes but that might be enough for me. If I want to record a shout out at the drop of a hat say.

It's too early to judge Screencastify but there's one thing that I've been able to do with it that I've wanted for some years.

When I watch Fern Heart (or if you're reading this next week) When I watched Fern Heart I was always put off by only really watching that top left hand corner of the screen. I'm one of those that likes to watch a pretty face. It's inconvenient too with her because she's so tall she only just fits on the screen.
Here's what we normally see:

I've wanted a way to zoom in on live TV: select a part of the screen, zoom in and blow that up to the full size of the screen.
No matter how I type that requirement in a search box I've not been able to find a programme. Screencastify goes some way towards letting me do that. I can't zoom in on live TV but I can do that on something already recorded and it looks like this:

You'll notice that I've zoomed in excessively, it's going out of focus but the principle seems sound.

It might be that there's programmes that will do all this already but I'll put this up anyway. Obviously it would work for any part of the screen, you could watch boobs or bottoms or feet.

Hope this is of use to someone. Smile

Ok AZ.

From reading between the lines whilst looking at Screencastify I'd say that with their Chromebook, Google are aiming to have a recorder that isn't even an application. It's just there. I read that there'd be no need to wait for downloading time.

I like what I see really. For me this is the future. Like a particular make of car it comes with features that are all in house. Hitherto computers have been designed by Morgan, built by Lancia, running programmes from Lada, British Leyland and Borg Warner in a case supplied by H.J. Mulliner-Park Ward and filled with data from Shell, Jet and Fred's garage.

The Chromebook, in about twenty years time will be like a car of the 50's and ultimately no one will know or care that a file is big or not. Smile

Just tossing out another rec if anyone is interested. OBS Studio has a pretty good screen recorder built in. Much better than stuff I've used like Bandicam, etc. in the past. Free to download, no time limit, no watermarks. You can customize the bitrate and resolution in the settings if you'd like to keep the file sizes down. Then just use a program like Avidemux to crop and trim the clips or convert from flv to mp4 when you're finished recording.

OBS is also used for live-streaming, so if you ever have big dreams of becoming a rich successful camboy like I do, you got all bases covered Tongue
