I agree, whatever your political views, all MPs must be able to hold their surgeries in safety for us all to live in a functioning democracy.

RIP

RIP
It's horrible that our MP's surgeries should be the safest places to meet our MP's. now I think ALL MP's should look at ways at making surgeries secure without putting people off visiting them.

Condolences to all concerned. Get the feeling we may be seeing more of these attempts.

Can we now see a change in how MPs are seen by society, and how the media deals with them (something they have conveniently overlooked so far in the aftermath).

Whatever our political views/allegiances/affiliations, those that represent us in whatever constituency throughout the UK, were man/woman enough to stand up, put their hand up, and say 'I will serve'. It is all too easy for the rest of us who didn't to take them, and the precious democracy they uphold through their service, for granted!! I am guilty as charged in this regard also!!

As Arlene Foster put it yesterday (and I have my issues with her stance on many things) ''disagree with me - fine, but no need to abuse or threaten me'' Absolutely right!!

I mentioned the media.........so somber yesterday - trotting out the platitudes. Their attitude towards, and treatment of - far too often, our MPs has to change too. Whatever the motivation of the drop kick that did this ( and I don't know - none of us do as yet), there can be little doubt that the occasions where the media cross a line with MPs when 'interviewing' them can not be dismissed as not being a possible 'trigger'. It is no longer interviewing, but interrogating and belittling in its' style, and is far removed from the 'public discourse' that should pass for holding our public representatives to account. Recent examples of this come from Nick Robinson, but go baack much further than that, with the like of Andrews' Neil and Marr etc (and the likes of A Boulton, K Burley) - (hypocrite). I almost forgot one of the principle culprits - Stephen Nolan - the way he speaks to people is despicable!

It is not too big a stretch to say that in some cases, the manner in which MPs are approached in this way, may lead those with ill - intent to see them as 'expendable' as a lesser form of 'human species' than they actually are. I suspect whoever did this, was intent on murder anyway, but others may have used - or may yet use - the former circumstance(s) as triggers for their own warped reasoning??

MPs (some) - with their own behavior in the house of commons, do not help themselves, but whatever their stupidity on these occasions, they DO NOT deserve the type of violent actions suffered by David Amess and Jo Cox before him. Neither of whom were 'play to the gallery merchants'

There is no need for anyone in the media to treat them in any way other than with respect. As i said before, MPs chose to serve, those that berate them did not (and certainly wouldn't take the wage cut ) to replace them!! Would you Robinson, Neil, Boulton, Burley, Kuensberg??

Maybe the argument some MPs were putting forward recently re their wages is not all that unreasonable?? Most of them (vast majority) like David Amess are there to serve and help. Only that!!
