I see it's getting backlash on two fronts already, the first is expected and part I kind of agree with (the book cover bit), with Amazon creating new characters in the universe and also changing LOTR book covers to reflect a show that could flop for all anyone knows, it's a bit premature and somewhat disrespectful.
The second, big surprise, race changing complaints, I mean come on, it's fantasy drama, not an historical fucking novel based in actual fact. The only time there is any legitimacy to that complaint, is if a real figure in history is race changed for no apparent reason, although even then you have to give people some leeway, because if an actor is right for the role, their race shouldn't matter.
The amount of whitewashing that's gone on in tv and film is horrendous, so bitching too much about an elf and a female dwarf is pathetic.
Anyway, it looks pretty good, it's something that I'll definitely check out. New stuff. Yay.

I went in fairly open minded and enjoyed it, sure some of it seems like they're taking liberties, but I'll be sticking with it for the time being.

One twist is fine, but handled badly, the other if it's where they're heading will enrage hardcore fans. lol.
Not bad all in all, visually brilliant, acting for the most part good, only let down by minor characters, but the writing, poor is being kind.
If they keep going they need some smarter people in the room when making choices, because one of the twists is a mistake imo. Should have gone with a character they can create a story for and not one that's established.
