Channel 4 - Charlemagne - 05-04-2022 11:14

The government is pushing ahead with it's plans to privatise Channel 4.

They hope to raise £1bn from the sell off of the broadcaster which had previously been under public ownership during the last 40 years.

The move is being championed by the culture champion bladewave Nadine Dorries.

I can't see what all the pearl clutchers are getting in a lather about. They'll still be spunking out their left wing propaganda when they're privatised - just look at Sky News if you don't believe me.
Maybe you're all concerned that their commitment to public service broadcasting will be compromised and you won't be able to watch Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares, Come whine with me and Kirstie and Phil's en-suite bathroom wet dreams. Can any of you honestly tell us what they do that all the other metropolitan, middle class, brexit hating broadcasters don't? I know you all loved Mini Pops but that was forty years ago.
It's all a sideshow anyway. What they ought to be doing is defunding the Brussels Broadcasting Corporation but that would take a government with a vertebral column and we haven't had one of those for over thirty years.

As a Brit now living in the US, I love the vitriol aimed at the British Media.

The right wingers say it promotes left wing propoganda, the left wing say it promotes right wing propoganda.

To my mind it indicates it is probably about correct as all social surveys indicate the majority of Brits are SLIGHTLY left of centre overall - they have different views of all sorts of subjects, some are slightly to the left, some slightly to the right.

If yopu want to see how eally biased media operates come and live in the States, and spend some time watching Fox affiliates.

There's a petition opposing the sell off which has currently reached 250,000

Not sure i buy in to the left wing thing. This is trotted out far too easily for me! I voted against Brexit, and I am certainly not on the left (or up it):The rest I wholeheartedly agree with!!

I think I might sign it! Purely because I believe that - if the programmes are garbage now, wait until pure ratings for revenue becomes the necessity! C4 should have been able to 'salami slice' a decent percentage of the license fee when it had more intelligent output (Hiscox intelligent thinking....anyone remember??) and we may not be here now??

How many viewers do C4 currently boast of?

If it comes to the worst, we can just watch Channel 4+1 instead.

Who hasn't a clue how C4 is funded
