Has Brexit Failed? - lovebabes56 - 02-06-2022 11:46

#Brexithasfailed has been trending lately on Twitter and Tory MP Tobias Ellwood has openly admitted that he feels we should rejoin the single market

I have to admit having voted to leave in 2016 I think we have acheived very little in the six years since that vote and think the country has stagnated and whether we would get any real benefit by rejoining six years later

Where has BREXIT gone wrong in your Opinion?

It has failed.
People won't agree with this but I don't think we should have a vote on it, far too complicated for anyone to understand, non stop bias from media, politicians, celebrities on both sides. The whole thing was flawed.
Half of the things that have happened were never mentioned at all during the ref, the constant lies, again from both sides.
Why anyone thought Boris Johnson would get a good deal is crazy, he doesn't even know how many kids he has but will sort out a massive deal which effects the country is so many ways.

"But Covid...." is the stock Brexiteer answer to any suggestion it's not going well.

They'll be able to use that, and the war, to cover their arses for a couple of years yet.

This is one of the things that annoy me most, no matter how bad something might be because of Brexit, some people can't admit it, they will use any excuse. People are so entrenched in a view, they can't move on it at all.

I had high hopes that somehow we would be able to stand on our own two feet as a nation after the vote, but if the situation we are finding ourselves in now is the end result then i'm sure many can honestly say the referendum seemed a good idea at the time, but maybe now it wasn't but if we WAS to rejoin the single market would we have to wait a few years for any of us to see the impact and benefits it will bring?

^ We were in the Single Market. You voted to leave despite all the evidence about what would happen. You believed lies of Boris and his cronies who took you for a fool. Own the mistake you made.

I'm willing to admit I made that mistake on the basis that I felt it was the mood in the country at that time - not just me there were millions who voted the same way as me

When I first heard that there was to be a referendum I was surprised. I thought that most everybody would hold the view that we don't pull out of an association of any kind, least of all an international one, just because it might not work that well and that you stay in and try to make it better.

I also thought that business, politics and employment had evolved to such an extent that adaptation would be prohibitively difficult.

I was shocked at work to find my boss was a strong supporter, he thought that he'd be able to impose longer hours. A supervisor told me she was all in favour of Brexit because it would reduce the number of foreigners in the country dragging us all down and I found that nearly everybody I met thought that too. They didn't think that we had anything to gain from any association with Europe even though they go there on holiday. People talked about being foreigners in their own country

I stood firm in my opinion but I learned to keep it to myself.

So my opinion now about failure will be biased but in terms of the number of foreigners remaining in the country surely it must have failed. In the last two or three years I've heard of an influx of people from Syria and now The Ukraine. The stream of individuals crossing the channel seems like D Day in reverse and wasn't there a story last year of quotas waived and jets chartered in a hurry to bring in foreigners to pick fruit.

Then there's our culture. We still eat curry. Lewis Hamilton's no less black. TV presenters and pop stars embrace every creed and colour. Anything on the media that's portrayed as fashionable will have black people in it front and centre and the odd white person in the background.

By this measure, a definitive one for those I encountered, Brexit surely must've failed.

Why did you vote leave?
