Phil Bennett RIP - Charlemagne - 12-06-2022 20:11 Phil Bennett former Wales and British Lions fly half has died at the age of 73. Regarded as one of Wales' greatest ever players, he won 29 caps for his country between 1969 and 1978, winning two Five Nations Grand Slams and three Triple Crowns. RE: Phil Bennett RIP - hornball - 12-06-2022 20:40 The bad news just keeps on coming with the sad passing of Phil Bennet! I was a little too young to see - certainly remember - him playing through most of his career, but he was a stalwart of Welsh rugby, and by all accounts, one of their best ever players. The stats bare this out too. Two things do stand out to me about the great man, and that is his role (dancing feet) in the greatest try of all time from Gareth Edwards while playing for the Baa Baas, and also the fact that he featured in a monologue record from (the equally great) Max Boyce with the never to be forgotten line 'and Bennett not in the squad' so funny! Look it up if you don't recognise it! RE: Phil Bennett RIP - lovebabes56 - 13-06-2022 11:14 A sad loss have often watched trhat try and don't think it has ever been bettered RIP Phil |
