Rishi Sunak - and his miserly Government - Charlemagne - 24-10-2022 14:06

As Penny Mourdaunt has dropped out Rishi will be our next Prime Minister.
So it's time for a new thread.

He will be making a statement at 2:30pm.

Mark Harper told BBC Radio-4’s World at One that Sunak would form a government with talented people from across the party. That should mean a promotion to a senior role for Greg Clark. Maybe Sunak will give the Foreign Sec role to Mordaunt

I hope that he gives Foreign Sec to Mad Nad Tongue then shr can give blow jiobs for trade deals (a fair exchange) Big Grin

I'm sure a young Home Secretary & Foreign Secretary with a fresh outlook would go down well

UK has its first short man PM

RE: Rishi Sunak - and his Government - southsidestu - 24-10-2022 15:34

He has said he wants a cabinet of all the talents, lets hope it means this man is out of a job

I would think Hunt will stay as Chancellor.
Cleverly may remain at the Foreign office unless Mordaunt gets it as he supported Sunak before Mordaunt dropped out. Mordaunt could alternatively end up as Home Secretary and Deputy PM given her skills at the despatch box.
I also suspect Theresa May could be brought back in some capacity.

Just a thought.....For all the urgent matters affecting the country that Sunak has to deal with there could be an early fly in the ointment of the parliamentary party kind.
Ben Wallace (current Defence Secretary).

Problem 1: Wallace wants no other job other than Defence so is unlikely to be fobbed off with promotion to Foreign Secretary etc.
Problem 2: He will not accept cuts to his own department and may resign if they happen. Bearing in mind Jeremy Hunt's assertion that all departments need to find efficiency savings this could be a headache for the new PM.
Problem 3: If Wallace gets what he wants and other departments suffer this could provoke public uproar and problems within the parliamentary party and even cabinet.

When Rishi was on the HQ steps he didn't shake Matt Hancock's hand!!
