There seems to be a new offside rule for teams playing Qatar. It's now 4 players instead of the usual 2 players between the attacking player and the goal. bladewave

And it's costing me points in the prediction thread

Edit: 10 minutes later they have finallly come up with a graphic which shows that the attacking players knee was offside.

It didn't matter as Ecuador have now scored a penalty.

Here's one tweet regarding the offside.
"Qatar’s multimillion pound investment into new VAR technology paying off".

It was his foot that was offside, not his knee.

This is what happened. The Ecuador free kick was played into the area and Torres challenged the Qatar goalkeeper. The ball fell to Estrada who then headed it back to Torres for him to create the goal for Valencia. However, when Torres played the ball Estrada had one foot ahead of Abdelkarim Hassanof the second-last defensive player. Therefore it was clearly offside.

A close call but offside is offside.

News from the opening match.

Many spectators complained about the air conditioning working too well. The temperature was about 20 degrees, but on the day it was only 23 outside the stadium anyway.

Embarrassing scenes as many of the Qatar supporters left early, in fact extremely early. With half an hour left to play there were already thousands of empty seats.

There were only 11 shots in the match, 5 by Qatar and 6 by Ecuador. This is the lowest number of goal attempts in any World Cup match since records began in 1966.

Daft decision to delay taking the Iranian keeper off. So much for the welfare of players Rolleyes.

In the England match there was 24 minutes of extra time + another 2 minutes whilst the referee decided to award Iran a last minute penalty.

This Netherland's team is worse one that I've ever seen. With the exception of Virgil van Dijk they are a very ordinary team.

If Senegal's Sanio Mane had been fit, I'd make them favourates for this dull game.
