The last surviving member of the legendary 'Dambusters' raid has died aged 101.
Our last link to that raid (Operation Chastise) has gone. They were heroes one and all, who flew on a dangerous and audacious low flying mission and some never came back. (53 crew members were killed, 8 Lancasters destroyed).
RIP Sir. You and your crews are still heroes to one and all of us today.

Quite remarkable to survive the war when Bomber Command had a 44% Death rate (55,573 out of125,00 aircrew) and then live to 101 years old.
RIP Squadron Leader Johnson. 617 Squadron are finally reunited.

Last of a quite remarkable group of men that achieved what many thought impossible, whilst ultimately surviving the war. With each passing year less and less of that generation that gave a hell of lot are passing away.
Rest easy Sir, you and your fellow dam busters will never be forgotten.

A remarkable man, as were his many RAF peers. So many heroes & role-models.
Sadly, we can't say the same about the behavior some of the privileged RAF poster-boys the Red Arrows.
