RIP Chris Boucher - KerrAvon - 14-12-2022 00:39

Just heard British TV sci-fi writer/script editor Chris Boucher passed away aged 79

He pretty much created the character of Leela in Doctor Who's The Face of Evil, and followed that up with the one of Tom Baker's best stories The Robots Of Death. He even return to the Doctor/Leela pairing in a couple of books in later years.

He script edited the entire run of Blakes 7, and wrote several stories including the unforgettable final episode 'Blake'

Also created the sadly short-lived BBC series Star Cops, and had credits in other 70s 80s shows like Shoestring

R.I.P. Chris.

The Robots Of Death is an excellent story.

He wrote the Shoestring episode titled "The Dangerous Game."

Christmas themed episode about an electric racing game called Lunar Race 2000, but it is faulty and blows up. It is the only one I remember, probably because I had a race set when I was younger.

Terry Nation created Blakes 7. But Boucher simply made it what it became. His dialogue changes and other refinements are evidenced in the existing scripts. Every one is to the betterment of the show and often represent its most memorable moments.

His output makes it hard to deny he knew how to work to the Beeb's strengths when doing sci-fi drama of that time.

(He was the last surviving writer on Who left from the 60s and 70s.)
