Happy Burns Night - Boomerangutangangbang - 25-01-2023 15:10 Anyone celebration this tonight ? As many of you will know, I'm first & foremostly a proud Yorkshireman, & a slightly less proud Englishman, but that hasn't stopped me immersing myself in other countries traditions & cultures, especially when there's whisky involved! important! Afterall, isn't Christmas a German thing ? I count Scotland as a second home, & have been a frequent visitor over the years, as a golfer, I've had many a great Burns Night bash at my local club, who put on a decent spread, & not forgetting the pipes & poetry. I draw the line at wearing a skirt,! eek! despite having a Scottish surname & an authentic family tartan. I'll be serving a Chieftain Haggis at my house party tonight, anyone else got plans ? RE: Happy Burns Night - Boomerangutangangbang - Today 18:54 I'm sure that yesterdays events with storm Eowyn has curtailed celebrations for many, but I'll still wish all the Forum's Scottish members "Oidhche Bhlas Burns" This year my Haggis was purchased from one of the well known German Supermarkets, it seemed wrong in many ways, but I couldn't really fault it. RE: Happy Burns Night - skully - Today 20:08 Just keeping it simple after yesterday. So decided to have a chippy as our local does a great haggis, and even though it's battered and deep fried they always do it fresh, so it's not remotely greasy. Oh and chippy brown sauce goes so well with it, bloody lovely, not to be had too often though. RE: Happy Burns Night - Boomerangutangangbang - Today 20:56 ^^ Good to know that, I always thought it felt a bit criminal to have Brown Sauce with Haggis, but if it's good enough for you. RE: Happy Burns Night - skully - Today 21:04 Maybe not the best idea if you're going for traditional with neeps and tatties, but it does work. RE: Happy Burns Night - Charlemagne - Today 21:10 Boomer a Yorkshire Burns Night is Haggis with a Yorkshire Pudding. Swilled down with a pint of Theaston Old Peculiar and a single malt chaser. It's a Yorkshire - Scottish combination so who would foot the bill |
