Really sad news to hear of his passing he was my fav commentator on football.
I remember I was in restaurant and i saw him I didn’t wanna disturb him and he finished his meal went to my table and spent a couple mins of his time talking to me. He was not only very friendly but kind and warm will never forget that moment R.I.P. John.

The commentators favorite commentator and one of the most knowledgeable about the beautiful game, RIP Motty.

Always impeccably prepared for every commentary and growing up he was, to my mind at least, the voice of football.
My favourite football commentator of the lot now gone. A terrible loss.

R.I.P.

How can I add to what has already been said? When it was Cup Final Day we'd either watch the first half on ITV to listen to Brian then switch to BBC to either listen to Coleman or Motty for the second half (I'm sure many of us did the same thing?. Motty was impeccably the football statician's commentator, but we lost a true giant & legend of Broadcasting. I hope the leagues pay respect to him this weekend.

Of course there is the infamous sheepskin coat I am pretty sure he single handedly drove up sales after that infamous pre match report. If anything I think the most famous Wc omment i loved was his "TARDELLI!" in the 1982 WC Final
RIP Motty

John Motson and Brian Moore were the best. The rest now can't and won't hold a candle to them.

I hope the minute's applause at the fulham game was replicated else last night and again tonight.
