World lightweight champion from Sept 1970 to May 1971 winning both WBC & WBA tittles on the way. During that period, the British Boxing Board of Control and and the WBC were involved in a row and Buchanan was not allowed to defend the title in GB. He is regatrded as Scotland's grestest ever champion. He also had a record 23 unbeaten domestic fight record and an overall record of 61 wins and 8 losses. His last fight came in 1982, a loss on Pts to George Feeney. Am I right in thinking that he used a piper in his ringwalks as champion? I hope they pay a proper tribute to him at the O2 tonight as a mark of respect. RIP Champ. |
