After the players lose their ranking points for the 2022 World Championship, the provisional top 5 in the rankings will be as follows:

1. Mark Allen
2. Judd Trump
3. Luca Brecel
4. Mark Selby
5. Ronnie O'Sullivan

John Higgins will be 17th in the provisional rankings so he has to have a good World Championship or he might find himself out of the top 16.

The players seeded 17-32 start their World Championship campaign in Qualifying Round 3 from Saturday. This includes the likes of Neil Robertson, Hossein Vafaei and Si Jiahui.

Qualifying Round 1 is under way. Jimmy White received a bye in to Round 2 because Martin Gould withdrew from the tournament.

Potential match ups if all seeds get through to round 2 include:

Trump v Ford Shy
Allen v Higgins Cool
Williams v Zhang Important
Selby v K. Wilson Tongue
Murphy v Carter bladewave

Potential quarter finals:
Ronnie v Ding (again) eek
Trump v Williams (again) laugh
Allen v Selby (again) Wink

All this assumes seedings reflect progress which is obviously not a given.
And absolutely nobody will want to draw Neil Robertson in round one assuming he qualifies. Every seeded player will be pooing their pants at the thought of playing him in round one.
Yeah yeah TMI Wink.

It's impressive to see Ford, Zhang and even Gary W all in the seeded mix (also Big Bob Milkins, probably his last such time, alas).

The first Hungarian professional Bulcsu Revesz made the most of his wildcard entry by beating Sean O'Sullivan 10-8.

Eyebrows were raised when Mink Nutcharut went 4-1 up against Adam Duffy, but Duffy rallied to beat her 10-5. Mink's tour card expires at the end of the World Championship but she'll get it renewed for another 2 years if she can remain Women's World no.1 after the Women's British Open from May 24-26.

The other women on the tour didn't fare much better. Reanne Evans lost 10-0 to Oliver Brown, Baipat Siripaporn lost 10-1 to Marco Fu. Reanne and Baipat still have a year left on their tour cards. Rebecca Kenna plays tomorrow. If the WPBSA don't increase the number of women on the tour, then Rebecca will be off the tour to make way for Women's World Champion Bai Yulu after the World Championship.

I see from the WST site that Fergal O'Brien and - YES! - Michael Holt were 1st round exiters Big Grin

Jimmy White 2-7 after the 1st session of his 2nd round match also.

Yes, Holt won't be knocking Ronnie out of the World Championship like he promised when Ronnie criticised him at the Snooker shootout.

In potentially her last match as a professional, Rebecca Kenna lost 10-1 to Alfie Burden. If she's now off the tour, she might be able to enter select professional tournament if she is invited to enter as a wildcard.

Gao Yang is off the tour but, just like in the UK Championship, he got a wildcard entry for the World Championship. He also got the same opponent, and Gao beat Ishpreet Singh-Chadha again, this time 10-6. If Gao cannot get a tour card for his progress on the World Championship, there are 4 tour cards going at the Asia and Oceania Q School which commences on May 20.

Qualifying Round 2 has commenced and it's not looking good for Jimmy overnight.

Yep Jimmy White is out after a chastening
10-3 loss to Lyu Hongyu.
Tie of the current round of qualifying though has to be Marco Fu v Ken Doherty which is yet to begin.

RE: World Snooker Championship 2024 - Joannis - 12-04-2024 07:47

Bulcsu Revesz managed to stay neck and neck with James Cahill until it was 8-8, but Cahill took the next 2 frames, finishing off with a 108 break, to win 10-8. At least Revesz got a taste of what he could expect from being a professional ahead of his 2 year tour card kicking in from the first WST professional tournament of the new season, which is provisionally the Championship League that carries ranking points, from June 10th to 29th.

Liu Hongyu now has Jack Lisowski in round 3 on Saturday.

Maguire's first opponent will be Ashley Hugill who beat Adam Duffy 10-4

Will that be the last time we see Jimmy play?
