RIP Duane Eddy - PhredE - 02-05-2024 09:55 One of the original Rock and Roll Guitar Heros died of cancer on April 30th, one week after his 86th birthday. Although primarily he was a country-style guitarist he worked with Lee Hazlewood who developed his distictive Twangy guitar sound back in the late 1950s. He had a range of hits such as Movin and Groovin, Peter Gunn and Because They're Young. He had hits in the 1950s, 60s, 70s and 80s (the latter a rework of Peter Gunn with The Art of Noise) His last recording was playing on Going Home, a charity single organised by Mark Knopfler for Childhood Cancer charities. I met him once, just prior to COVID, when I was working in Franklin, near Nashville. I went into a diner and ended up chatting to this elderly guy about Britain (he obviously loved ther UK). I didn't know who he was until after he left and the waiter told me, but he was a really nice guy. Apparently died 4 days after his birthday |
