Really really sad news.
He was a total one of a kind musical genius when it came to harmonies and chord structure and progression.
I think it was bassist Carol Kaye (in the fantastic Wrecking Crew documentary) who recalled him in the studio during the Pet Sounds sessions, teaching a large group of session musicions their parts individually by singing or humming it to them.
He already knew in his head exactly how all those parts would work and sound once they were played together.
