Can someone remind England that this is a 50 over match & not a T20....plenty of time.Important

EDIT : It's like I had some sort of a premonition, at the time of my original post it was 102-4 after (17.2 overs). Somehow they've managed to lose 8-49 in 64 balls.

South Africa had their own mini collapse losing 3-10 after an opening stand of 121. Markram made 86 from 55 balls, with 13 fours & 2 sixes, he was particularly severe on debutant Sunny Baker whose 7 overs went for 76, conceding 12 fours & 2 sixes, after he was also the last man out in England's innings, bowled for a golden duck.

England make on change with Mahmood in for Baker.

South make 2 enforced chances, the injured de Zorzi is replaced by Breetzke & Mulder is out due to illness with Muthusamy coming in.

This is not hindsight or jumping on the bandwagon, I had same thought with the team selection for the first ODi, only with the inept batting the inadequacies of the bowling resources weren't fully exposed.
How best to balance the side isn't a new problem without Stokes. Genuine allrounders don't come along that often, at least not in that class, even Woakes would've fitted the role to a lesser degree.
But Brook seems to be getting the team that he want, he likes the long batting line up, but the reality is that when the combined 5th bowling option goes for 112 runs the batting unit will have an above par target to chase in this case.
The fact that Bethell & Jacks combined to score 97 runs, that's a net loss of 15 runs in the match. No way would you deliberately pick a bowler who might concede 112 runs. A genuine front line bowler would hope to go for less that a run a ball & then they are chasing 50 runs less & therefore no need to play the extra batter. Simple.
